The Advent Conspiracy

"This time of the year brings out the best and the worst in people"

I overheard a mother in Whole Foods grumble this to her daughter recently.  It struck a chord in me. In this season that I hold so dear in my heart, so many folks are "just making it through" the Holiday.

The question is, how can we keep this Holiday Season sacred, and how can we spread the Love?

In our home, "Black Friday" is one of the most cherished days of the year.  We leave only if we have to. We hunker down and pull out the crafting supplies.  It is the first major day of our crafting season.
The month of December tends to be the closest month of the year for our family.  We love to make gifts for others, and for one another, we love to felt wool, dip candles, sew, glue, paint, mold, learn, sing, decorate.  We spend TIME as a family.

My gifts from my children last year, a hand woven scarf from my daughter
and a hand crafted bookshelf from my son.
I was introduced to the concept of The Advent Conspiracy a few years back at our wonderful Church. I encourage you to watch the following video, regardless of your spiritual beliefs.  Every year I love to watch it again, this is my favorite Christmas media.

This year, let us be the spirit of Love.  Let us share joy and happiness.  Let us make more gifts and give more time.  Let us do this during the Holiday Season, but most importantly let us carry this through into our new year.

  1. Loved it! I don't let the holidays stress me. I take it slow, enjoy and don't try to over-do it all. A major handmade part of the season for me is making my own Christmas cards. I've done this for about 5 years and I enjoy it so much. It takes time, but it's something I don't mind finding the time to do, quite the opposite.
